In-scene one-upsmanship.
Mall goth: Hey, hey you guys, you know- I liked Vampires before everyone else; I read Twilight before it was a movie.
CyberGoth: As if! I liked Buffy before Twilight was even written.
Rivethead: I liked The Lost Boys before Buffy came out.
Romantic Goth: That was the end of the 80s, Anne Rice redefined Vampires as tortured, dark, romantic figures in the 1970s.
HorrorPunk: You're so close, but Bela Lugosi actually turned Vampires into seductive Byronic anti-heros when he starred in and, to some extent, helped direct, Dracula the play - before he stared in Dracula- the film directed by Todd Browning. Dracula, of course, was written by Bram Stoker who was the first to give a vampire human qualities.
Eldergoth: You're so close, it makes my tiny black heart 3 times bigger! But, actually John William Polidori wrote the first Romantic vampire story, The Vampyr, in 1819- almost 80 years before Dracula was published. "Byronic" is the perfect word to describe vampires in fiction ever since; The Vampyr was based off of a fragment of a horror story Lord Byron told in the same famous literary contest in which Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley first conceived of Frankenstein. Many people think Lord Ruthven, the vampire of Polidori's story, was largely based off of Byron himself.
Victorian Goth: /frown
Romantic Goth: Cool!
Victorian Goth: Well...
Cybergoth: Yeah, that's interesting because-
Victorian Goth: I AM A VAMPIRE.
Cybergoth: Ughk
Rivethead: /sigh
Batcave: RRRrrrrrr!
MallGoth: Wow!
Eldergoth: You shut your whore mouth, Carl! For the last time, WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU ARE A VAMPIRE.
Carl: I keep telling you guys to call me Sir Lysander Ravenblood, Esquire! Caamaawwnnnn!
Eldergoth: Fuck you, Carl.
